The first leg of the Waterford Greenway starts in Dungarvan and takes you to the village of Durrow. This is a relatively flat and easy route that is suitable for all skill levels. It takes you through charming towns and villages and offers beautiful countryside views. Along the way, you'll pass through
Ballyvoyle Tunnel, the longest tunnel on the Greenway. This tunnel is over 400 meters long and is an exciting part of the route. The total distance from Dungarvan to Durrow is 15 kilometres, making it a perfect route for families and beginners.
The Durrow to Kilmacthomas route is a little more challenging than the Dungarvan to Durrow route, with some hills and winding roads. However, it's also very scenic, with breathtaking views of the Comeragh Mountains and the River Suir. Along the way, you'll pass through the picturesque village of Kilmacthomas, where you can take a break and enjoy some local cuisine. This leg of the Greenway is 11 kilometres long and is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders.
For more experienced riders, the Kilmacthomas to Clonea route is an excellent choice. This route includes some inclined trails and challenging terrain, but the views are worth it.
Along the way, you'll pass through picturesque countryside, including the village of Stradbally, which is home to one of the oldest church buildings in Ireland. This leg of the Greenway is 13 kilometres long and is not recommended for beginners - a real sense of accomplishment when you reach the end.
The Clonea to Stradbally route is a relatively flat and easy route that follows the coastline and offers stunning sea views. It is suitable for all skill levels and is an excellent option for families. Along the way, you'll pass by beautiful beaches and have the opportunity to stop for a swim or a picnic. This leg of the route is 11 kilometres long and is a great option for families.
