Waterford’s stunning 46km Greenway is a brilliant amenity and a cycle along the route is the ideal way to see it.

Here are some tips for getting the most out of your cycle on the Greenway.

1. Hire a bike

Unless you live locally, or make a habit of packing bikes, don’t bother bringing yours. Our rates are low, our bikes are excellent!

2. Pack smart

A helmet, water, snacks and fully charged phone are essential. Bring a light backpack, rain jacket and layers to whip on and off as you go.

3. Wear padded shorts

Although they aren’t mandatory, you might be glad you did!

4. Wear sunscreen

Even in Winter, a long day out in the sun can result in a burned nose.

5. Pace yourself

46km is a long cycle. Be realistic about your fitness and ability — and your children’s too. Instead of the full greenway, why not try a section? The 10km from Dungarvan to Durrow is a stunner. Our Shuttle Bus will help too.

6. Follow the Code

Cycle on the left, pass on the right, and don’t be shy about using your bell.

7. Plan your stops

The Waterford & Suir Valley Railway (wsvrailway.ie) and Mount Congreve Gardens (mountcongreve.com) are worth visiting. Think of a cycle along the Waterford Greenway as touring, not a training sprint!
